Business
Yunnan Energy International Co. Limited, an investment holding company incorporated in Bermuda in 1988 and headquartered in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, primarily engages in the distribution of analytical and laboratory instruments as well as life science equipment in the People's Republic of China, with secondary operations extending to other parts of Asia and internationally; it operates through two main segments, namely the Distribution Business and the Supply Chain Business. In the Distribution Business, the company distributes a range of specialized analytical instruments including medical computed tomography equipment, magnetic resonance imaging systems, fully automated microbial mass spectrometers, digital choledochoscopes, color ultrasound machines, radio frequency therapeutic devices, anesthesia machines, life monitors, chromatographs, spectrophotometers, electron microscopes, and general laboratory instruments equipped with customized hardware and software solutions to facilitate scientific analysis and testing for customers such as hospitals, universities, research institutions, industrial companies, and government agencies; it also provides comprehensive after-sales services encompassing testing, training, and maintenance. The Supply Chain Business involves trading and supply chain management of diversified commodities and consumer products, including construction materials, agricultural products such as panax notoginseng, traditional Chinese medicine products, mineral products like coal and pulverized coal, photovoltaic modules and panels, rubber, stainless steel pipes, medical devices, and other industrial goods, serving state-owned enterprises and industrial clients primarily in the PRC, Vietnam, Laos, and other Southeast Asian markets. The company, formerly known as Techcomp (Holdings) Limited until its name change in December 2018, is a subsidiary of Baodi International Investment Company Ltd., which is ultimately controlled by the state-owned Yunnan Provincial Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd. Recent developments include the completion of a 6.67% equity acquisition in YEIG Dayao Green Energy Generation Co., Ltd. on March 26, 2024, for an investment designated at fair value through other comprehensive income valued at HK$40.9 million as of December 31, 2024, marking entry into green energy with exposure to six operational photovoltaic solar power stations boasting approximately 523,000 kilowatts of total installed capacity in Dayao County, Yunnan Province; in July 2024, it signed a cooperation framework agreement with Nepalese merchants at the China-South Asia Expo to explore new energy vehicle exports; and the company achieved a revenue increase of 68.7% to HK$576.6 million in 2024, driven by strong Supply Chain Business growth in photovoltaic panels, panax notoginseng, and coal, alongside a turnaround to net profit of HK$0.5 million from a prior-year loss, while planning expansions into long-term supply agreements for coal and traditional Chinese medicines, Southeast Asian energy infrastructure, and green energy projects in Laos and Myanmar leveraging parent group networks.
