Business
The J.M. Smucker Company manufactures and markets food, beverage, pet food, and snack products across North America. Headquartered in Orrville, Ohio, the company was founded in 1897 and operates through four major business units: U.S. retail coffee, U.S. retail consumer foods, U.S. retail pet foods, and U.S. retail sweet baked snacks; its portfolio includes fruit spreads, jams, jellies, and syrups (Smucker's, including Goober and Magic Shell), peanut butter (Jif), frozen crustless sandwiches (Uncrustables), ice cream toppings, coffee (Folgers, Dunkin', Cafe Bustelo), pet foods and treats (Meow Mix, Milk-Bone, Rachael Ray Nutrish), and sweet baked goods (Hostess brands such as Twinkies, Ho Hos, Ding Dongs, and Voortman cookies). The company maintains manufacturing facilities and distribution centers throughout North America, targeting consumers, households, pet owners, schools, convenience stores, and foodservice operators. In recent developments, J.M. Smucker completed the $5.6 billion acquisition of Hostess Brands in November 2023, expanding its snacking platform with iconic sweet baked goods and advancing toward $100 million in annual synergies by fiscal year 2026; it also divested the Voortman cookie brand to Second Nature Brands in December 2024 for approximately $305 million to optimize its portfolio, while investing $1.1 billion in a new Uncrustables facility in McCalla, Alabama, and closing its Indianapolis plant to enhance sweet baked snacks operations.
