Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Kunming, Yunnan Province, the company operates principally in China as a subsidiary of Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (Chalco). In late 2025, Yunnan Aluminium agreed to acquire additional equity stakes totaling approximately RMB 2.27 billion from Yunnan Metallurgical Group in three subsidiaries—Yunlv Yongxin (28.7%), Yunlv Runxin (27.3%), and Yunlv Hongxin (30%)—increasing its ownership to 96.1%, 97.5%, and 100%, respectively, to bolster equity-based primary aluminum capacity by 154,500 tonnes annually, centralize operations, and expand into bauxite development. Additionally, in November 2025, the company participated in a RMB 906.45 million investment with Chalco subsidiaries into Yunnan Aluminum Foil to develop high-precision foil, sheet, and strip production, enhancing downstream processing capabilities and alloying rates in alignment with China's dual-carbon goals.
