Founded in 1958 as Liaocheng Vehicle Manufacturing and Repair Factory with bus production starting in 1971, the company lists on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange since 2000 and maintains headquarters in Liaocheng, Shandong Province, China, on a 934,000 square meter site employing over 4,000 staff with capacity for 30,000 new-energy and energy-saving buses annually utilizing Netherlands BOVA technology; it operates primarily in domestic markets while exporting to countries including the United States, France, Spain, Argentina, Russia, Mexico, Pakistan, Singapore, Germany, and Austria. In June 2021, Zhongtong Bus Co., Ltd. changed its name to Zhongtong Bus Holding Co., Ltd.; most recently in November 2025, it entered a strategic partnership with Pakistan's Ghandhara Industries Limited for distribution of completely built-up luxury buses starting in Q1 2026 and local assembly by mid-2026, marking expansion into Pakistan's premium transport segment; the company continues emphasis on innovation with over 571 patents, participation in national standards and projects like the 863 program and new energy vehicle initiatives, and prior advancements such as its first electric bus launch in 2016.
