Business
Comelf SA is a Romania-based heavy machinery and industrial equipment manufacturer specializing in the engineering, fabrication, and assembly of complex carbon and stainless steel structures for energy, construction, earthmoving, and environmental protection applications. Founded in 1971 and reorganized as a joint-stock company in 1991, the company is headquartered in Bistrița, Romania, and operates as a core subsidiary of the Uzinsider Group holding. Comelf SA is publicly traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CMF. The company operates through three specialized production facilities—the Stainless Steel Products Factory (FPI), the Earthmoving Machinery & Equipment Factory (FUET), and the Earthmoving Components & Subassemblies Factory (FCT)—and categorizes its product and service offerings across multiple industrial segments: Energy and Environmental Equipment, including gas turbine air intake and exhaust systems, turbine exhaust casings, industrial silencers, soundproofing enclosures, high-efficiency electro-filters, bag filters, pressure vessels, and hydromechanical components; Earthmoving and Mining Machinery, including welded frames, revolving platforms, arm and boom assemblies, chassis, excavator components, crushers, and asphalt mixing plant assemblies; and Stainless Steel Industrial Products, including stainless steel filtration units, fluid management vessels, naval equipment structures, and railway transit components. In addition to structural equipment manufacturing, Comelf provides specialized industrial services comprising CNC mechanical machining and milling; high-precision laser cutting; heavy plate bending and rolling; robotic and certified manual welding; non-destructive testing and laboratory metrology services; surface treatment, shot blasting, and industrial painting; and electrical repair and electric motor winding. Comelf SA serves heavy equipment original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), power generation utilities, civil infrastructure contractors, and industrial plants across domestic and international markets, exporting the majority of its output to clients throughout Western Europe, including Germany, Italy, France, Austria, and Switzerland. The company maintains long-standing supplier relationships and manufacturing partnerships with multinational industrial corporations, including General Electric, Siemens Energy, Komatsu, and Hyundai. In recent corporate and operational developments, Comelf SA has broadened its industrial capabilities and advanced strategic sustainability and facility modernization programs. The company acquired Mottra SRL, integrating specialized electrical motor repair and coil winding operations directly into its service ecosystem. To enhance operational energy efficiency and reduce carbon intensity, Comelf expanded its on-site photovoltaic solar power generation capacity to 3.0 MWp, which supplies over 60 percent of its total electricity requirements, and transitioned its manufacturing heating infrastructure to industrial biomass pellet systems. The company is also deploying an integrated 2.03 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to optimize renewable energy utilization and grid stabilization. Alongside these green energy initiatives, Comelf has executed multi-million euro capital expenditure programs dedicated to facility modernization, acquiring high-capacity laser cutting machinery, automated CNC punching systems, and advanced drilling equipment to expand production throughput for its international heavy engineering clientele.
