Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Shanghai, People's Republic of China, the company previously maintained operations in over 14 countries through numerous business units. In a major strategic development, Haitong Securities merged with Guotai Junan Securities Co., Ltd. in April 2025 via a share swap transaction valued at approximately CNY 100 billion, after which its A and H shares were delisted from the Shanghai and Hong Kong Stock Exchanges in March 2025; Haitong now operates as a subsidiary of the resulting entity, Guotai Haitong Securities Co., Ltd.
