PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust (NYSE: PMT), a real estate investment trust founded in 2009 and headquartered in Westlake Village, California, primarily invests in residential mortgage loans and mortgage-related assets in the United States. The company operates through three main segments: Credit Sensitive Strategies, encompassing investments in credit risk transfer arrangements, subordinate mortgage-backed securities, distressed loans, real estate owned properties, and small balance commercial mortgages; Interest Rate Sensitive Strategies, including mortgage servicing rights, agency and senior non-agency mortgage-backed securities, and related interest rate hedges; and Correspondent Production, through which it acquires, pools, securitizes, or sells newly originated prime credit quality conventional conforming and jumbo loans, primarily to government-sponsored enterprises. PMT is externally managed by PNMAC Capital Management, LLC, a subsidiary of PennyMac Financial Services, Inc. (NYSE: PFSI), and relies on PennyMac Loan Services, LLC, another PFSI subsidiary, for loan servicing, including principal and interest collection, escrow management, loss mitigation, workouts, foreclosures, and fulfillment services such as loan quality reviews and secondary market sales. In recent developments, PMT renewed its mortgage banking services agreement with PFSI effective July 1, 2025, under which PFSI initially acquires correspondent production volumes while PMT retains rights to purchase up to 100% of non-government loans; in the third quarter of 2025, this structure facilitated PMT's acquisition of $3.3 billion in unpaid principal balance of conventional conforming and jumbo loans from PFSI, up 8% from the prior quarter, alongside $1.3 billion from PFSI's production and the creation of $46 million in new mortgage servicing rights through closed securitizations totaling $1.5 billion.
