Business
Standard Motor Products, Inc. (NYSE: SMP) manufactures and distributes premium replacement parts for the automotive aftermarket and supplies custom-engineered vehicle control and thermal management solutions to original equipment manufacturers across diverse on- and off-highway end markets. The company operates through three primary segments: Vehicle Control, which offers ignition, emissions and fuel system components including spark plugs, coils, sensors, fuel injectors and wiring; Temperature Control, encompassing air conditioning compressors, heat exchangers, expansion devices, engine cooling parts and thermal management products for hybrids and electric vehicles; and Engineered Solutions, providing specialized power distribution, sensors, switches, electrification components, fuel delivery and emission control systems under brands such as Trombetta and Stabil. Core aftermarket brands include Standard, Blue Streak, Echlin, BWD, Four Seasons, Hayden and Everco, while Nissens supplies thermal and engine efficiency parts including electric water pumps under Nissens, AVA and Highway Automotive brands; products serve program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, retailers like NAPA, AutoZone and O'Reilly, professional repair shops and do-it-yourself customers. Founded in 1919 and headquartered in Long Island City, New York, Standard Motor Products maintains over 50 manufacturing, distribution and engineering facilities employing approximately 6,500 people across North America, Europe and Asia. In recent developments, the company completed the acquisition of Nissens Automotive in November 2024 for $390 million, establishing dual-continent leadership in aftermarket thermal components and enabling cross-selling synergies; it formed SMP STABIL GmbH joint venture in June 2024 to bolster engineered solutions; opened a national distribution center in Shawnee, Kansas in June 2025; secured a new $750 million credit facility in September 2024; and continues selective expansion through prior deals including Trombetta in 2021 and Pollak assets, enhancing capabilities in commercial vehicles, electrification and heavy-duty markets.
