Founded in 1960 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, Sanrio targets consumer markets across Asia, North America, Europe and other regions through specialty stores, partnerships with international retailers and localized product offerings. In recent developments, Sanrio completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Gugenka Inc. in July 2025 to bolster digital capabilities; formed a capital and business alliance with IG Port, Inc. in June 2025; established new departments including Game Business, Digital Design and Digital Licensing in 2024 to expand digital business; executed a secondary offering of common stock raising approximately US$864 million in January 2025; and advanced overseas expansion with strategic partnerships driving 44.93% year-on-year revenue growth by December 2024 under its mid-term management plan targeting net sales of 175 billion yen and operating profit of 65 billion yen by fiscal 2027.
