Business
Kyosan Electric Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company primarily engaged in the development, manufacturing, and sales of railway signaling solutions, traffic control systems, and power electronics. Its core product offerings include railway signal equipment such as automatic train control and detection systems, electromechanical interlocking equipment, block systems, level crossing protection devices, field equipment, and total traffic control systems. The company also provides traffic management solutions encompassing road traffic control systems, road traffic signal controllers and units, traffic and pedestrian sensors, passenger information display devices, safeguards for passenger transfer areas, and disaster prevention products. In addition, Kyosan manufactures power conversion systems, including digitally controlled RF systems, DC converters, uninterruptible power supplies for signaling, and power supplies for communications devices. Kyosan operates globally with a strong presence in Japan and international markets, serving railway operators, public transportation authorities, and industrial clients. Founded in 1917 and headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, the company has expanded its business in recent years into platform safety equipment and advanced information systems, while maintaining a focus on safety and reliability in transportation infrastructure. Kyosan completed the acquisition of Kyosan China Co. Ltd. in December 2024 to strengthen its market position in China. In 2025, Kyosan adopted a performance-based stock compensation plan and undertook acquisition of its own shares as part of its flexible capital policies. The company also achieved important milestones including contracts for signaling systems installed at over 1,000 stations as of mid-2024 and signed a pilot project contract to obtain certification for electronic interlocking systems targeted at the Polish market. Furthermore, Kyosan has expanded its power electronics business with notable market entry into the U.S. by providing power supplies for industrial equipment. These developments illustrate Kyosan’s strategic focus on broadening its product portfolio and geographic footprint while leveraging its expertise in railway signaling and traffic management to meet evolving safety and operational demands internationally. The company continues to align its operations with advancing technology trends and global transportation infrastructure needs.
